ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES.

SOME INTERESTING FEATURES. NO' HOTEL LICENSES AFFECTED. BY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL TO THE STAR. WELLINGTON, May 25. An examination of the proposed new electoral' boundaries demonstrates interesting features from the licensing viewpoint. The Boundary Commission is directed by .statute to avoid interference -with hotels if this is, practicable, and it is understood that the provisional boundaries both in the North and South Islands have not destroyed any licenses. However, no license advocates will be able to l claim the nominal satisfaction of an. increased number o.f dry constituencies. Auckland South, the new northern seat, is taken from the dry area® of Grey Lynn, RoskLU, and Eden, and therefore is a no-license area. Wellington East lias hiad considerable boundary changes, involving absorptions, from Wellington Suburbs, a djy area, and it emerges without hotels, though 110 loss to' the licensing interests is involved. Thus the Wellington area includes three dry constituencies, the South, East and Suburbs. The disappearance of Ashburton, a no-license district, presented no complication over lost licenses'; but as regards Ellesmere and Temulra, which absorb a great deal from Ashburton, it ,i$ presumed that a good deal of the former no-license territory now stand® in the “wet” arela. The boundaries' gazetted are provisional' and subject to further change after petitions are heard by the commissioner.

IN THE TARANAKI PROVINCE. The Piatea, district now comprises the existing Patea electoral district, together with the Omona, Eltham and south ridings of the Elthiam county, and also' those portions of the Ararata and Mokoiia ridings of the Hawera county lying to the north of the existing Patea. electoral boundary. The Egmont district comprises the existing Egmont electoral district lees the Omona, Elltham, and South Ridings of the Eltham county and those portions of the Ararata and Mokoia Ridings of Hawera county now included m the Patea electoral district. The electorate now include® the whole of the West Riding of the Stratford County, together with the whole of the Okafco Riding of the Taranaki County and also a, portion of the Omata Riding of the Taranaki County, land a portion of the Mangorei Riding of the Taranaki County. The Stratford district comprises the existing Stratford electoral district less the whole of the West Riding of the Stratford 1 County, and also l now includes that portion of the Mangorei Riding of thei Taranaki County not included in the new Egmont district. It also includes; the whole of the l balance' of the Clifton County lying to tlie north-east of the existing Stratford electoral district boundary.

EXTINCTION OF OHINEMURI

MEMBER FOR THE DISTRICT SURPRISED.

AUCKLAND, May 25. The intimation that Oliinemuri electorate bad been wiped out of existence took its member, Mr A. M. Samuel, completely by isurpri.se. He informed a “Star” representative to-day that Le certainly anticipated a slight' alto ration of the boundairy and that the decorate would he mad© geometrically square, by the exclusion, of Waihil and the possible exclusion of Te Aioba. While everybidy knew that a South Island doctorate liad to go, Mr Samuel did not expect a new electorate in the North would -he created by the extinction of an old-established electorate. It seemed to "him like pulling up an oak tree, root and branch, to plant an, acorn on the adjacent ground. He had yet to decide whether he would contest the new and unknown: area.
