ECONOMIC CONFERENCE.
THE FINAL SESSION. PERMANENT BUREAU TURNED DOWN. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. GENEVA, May 24. At the close of the Economic Conference, M. Theunis said he believed the conference would profoundly influence the future economic policy of the world. The conference had accomplished serious, thorough and lasting work: It had done far more than he had hoped or expected, when their labours began. The Economic Conference decided, on a majority vote, not to'establish a permanent Economic Bureau. Nothing in this connection was done except to draw the attention of the League’s Council to the well-balanced composition of the preparatory committee, whose efforts yielded excellent results in the preparatory work of the present conference.
This decision was not reached without considerable opposition during the last 48 hours. There had been much lobbying to push through the suggestion, but. the opposition to this was even greater than to the original French proposal.
