NEW ZEALANDERS AT HOME. MIDDLESEX MATCH. A SENSATIONAL COLLAPSE. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT. LONDON, May 21. The New Zealand cricketers, in the first innings of their match against Middlesex, made 234. runs, and when stumps were drawn the county had one wicket down for 11 runs. A heavy shower prior to the opening of the match at Lords steadied Blunt and Mills, who began New Zealand’s innings. Their cricket before lunch was of the stodgy, dogged order. They were especially careful of Hearne’s deliveries. Fifty minutes passed before the first boundary was hit. There was a sensational collapse after lunch, Haig dismissing Page and Dacre with successive balls. Lowry, after being missed in the slips, forged ahead with the game resolutely and stopped the rot. Merritt again showed that he is a reliable batsman. Showers frequently interfered with the game. The King arrived at Lords while the teams were taking shelter, and was introduced by Sir James Parr to the New Zealanders. Rain fell at intervals during the whole of His Majesty’s stay, and he had no opportunity of seeing much cricket.

The Middlesex captain, Mann, is not playing, as he is suffering from tonsilitis. Allcott has recovered, and will be playing at Portsmouth on Wednesday against the Royal "Navy.
