TAWA FLAT DEVIATION.
WORK MAY BE STARTED SHORTLY. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.^ WELLINGTON, May 23. Mr W. H. Field, M.P., speaking at a local function, said that he was m a, position, to istato that eithor th€ Railways or Public Works Statements would make a definite pronouncement on the Tawa Flat railway deviation, and that the work would be in pivpgress within a year and possibly this year. . Much comment had been excited lately by the Government’s silence on this project, which was announced some two years ago. It involves a two-mile tunnel to get rid of the heavy grades leading out of the city on the old Manawatu line.
