WAR IN CHINA
FIGHT FOR HANKOW. FALL OF CITY REPORTED. ANTI-RED LEADER’S TERMS. BY CABLE -PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. SHANGHAI, !May 21. It is rumoured here that Hankow has fallen to the Honanese General Yangsen, who has arrived and joined General Shataioyn, who is attacking Wuchang and has reached the outskirts. The batt’e is progressing for possession of the city. Shataovn has issued his terms of surrender to the occupants. They demand the surrender of six Red leaders, including Borodin, who has already fled. It is reported that the Hanyang arsenal is already captured, but this is not confirmed. In view of the .seriousness of the position, two extra Japanese destroyers have been ordered to Hankow from here, crammed with marine sand field guns. Chiang-Kai-Shek’s troops continue to cross the Yangtsze and advance northwards.
DEMONSTRATION BEFORE BRITISH EMBASSY.
WASHINGTON, May 21. Over 100 men and women, members of a so-called “Hands off China. Committee.” allegedly composed of the Labour elements from Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, made a demonstration before the British Embassy, carrying banners protesting against what was termed “British Imperialism,” which was declared to be driving the wor’d into another war.
