UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT AT

RESCUE

(by telegraph—press association.) NAPIER, May 20.

As a result of a whare in which lie lived catching fire last night. William Smith, an old-age pensioner, was burned to death at Clive late last night. Ned Smith, his brother, who slept in the same whare, sustained burns and was admitted to hospital where he is progressing satisfactorily. The latter attempted unsuccessfully to rescue his brother.
