ITEMS OF INTEREST. BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT. NEW YORK, May 19. A cloudburst struck the settlement of Peoria (Illinois) on Wednesday, flooding the .surrounding lowlands. Fifteen are reported drowned. LONDON, May 19. Two bottle messages were washed up at Boulogne and Falmouth, purporting to come from Nungesser, indidicating that the aeroplane had fallen into the sa. The Air Ministry discredits the messages. A later message states that the messages have proved to be a hoax.
NEW YORK, May 19. At least eight were drowned when a natural dam on the Grosventre River burst on Wednesday. A wall of water swept through the -settlement of Kelly (Wyoming) and spread for the width of a mile and a half.
WASHINGTON, May 18. An, air commission has been appointed to examine designs for two projected airships authorised by Congress, with a 6,000,000 cubic feet capacity. They are expected to travel 6000 miles/ averaging 50 knots. 'lt is estimated that each ship will cost £4,000,000. The construction will occupy three years. LONDON, May 18. Marcella Duggan, aged 19 years, daughter of the Marchioness Curzon and heiress to £4,000,000, was married to Mr Edward Rice, a. young barrister. The marriage is the culmination of a romance. The Marchioness at first refused her consent and denied the engagement. The girl pleaded for a fortnight, and finally won her mother’s consent. 4 CAIRO, May 18. The Harvard-Boston expedition , made a remarkable discovery at Gaza, where they unearthed the tombs of Queen Meresankh and Princess Hete pheres, both of whom were the chib dren of Cheops, who built a pyramid A rock-cut chapel of three rooms contains 20 statues, with statuettes in niches in the wall and also vivid pictures, in which Hete pheres is represented as a pretty blonde with bobbed hair.

The American Medical Association adopted a resolution to the effect that physicians be empowered to prescribe such amounts of alcoholic liquor for the patients as the case requires. The association recommended the abandonment of the existing 6ystem whereby physicians were allowed .to prescribe only a small fixed quantity. It also advocated the withdrawal of alleged non-alcoholic drinks, sold as medicine, which were actually intoxicating and were consumed in tremendous quantities as beverages.
