BODY IN A TRUNK

CHARING CROSS MYSTERY

LITTLE MORE INFORMATION GATHERED.

BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRiGHT.

LONDON, May 10. The best brains in Scotland Yard are concentrated on the trunk tragedy. The bodv is that of a woman between 35 and ‘4O years of age. Death was the result of a wound by a sharp instrument. The woman’s shoes, 00-at and skirt were found in the trunk, and on a fragment of the underskirt was found a plain laundry mark, which the detectives regard as important. The evidence attached to the ti*unk was a label with the name of F. Austin, St. Leonards. The police believe the murder was committed in London. The detectives are hampered by the fact that twelve' similar trunks were deposited in the cloakroom on the same day. Investigations show that a welldressed middle-aged man drove up in a taxi on Friday, called a porter, and asked, that the trunk be deposited, stating that he intended to call for it later in the day. A few minute? later a boy pickbd up a ticket in the station yard which corresponded with the entry in the book. It had evidently been thrown away. Scotland Yard has practically established that the trunk was sold in the Brixton district to a man probably residing in the neighbourhood. The “Daily Mail” has definitely ascertained that the woman victim of the trunk tragedy was suffocated. She and the murdered, it is believed, lived together in South London shortly before the crime.
