SPORTS MEETING AND DANCE.
The annual combijned .sieven-a-tside football and sports meeting, which was hit,ld last Wednesday, proved to be an all-round .success, still quite a gloom was east over the, attendance through one of the payers in the football (H. H. Hodge) breaking his leg. This was indeed unfortunate, as apart from this player suffering a serious injury, tile team’s chances of winning were also considerably reduced. Steady rain set in and part of the programme had to be abandoned. In the evening a dance was held, and visitors were present from the adjoining districts. Prizes were presented, and quite an enjoyable time was spent. Accounts, are. not yet to hand, but it is estimated that the club’s funds were increased by a fair amount. HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING. On Thursday night the householders’ meeting was field, but very few people turned up, in fact there were insufficient present to hold the meeting until a, is-areh per motor-ear enabled the required number to be located. The meeting was then proceeded with, and tfie report and balance-sheet were read and adapted. • The balance-sheet disclosed .a round financial, ]xjsitien, and considerable improvements had to be done during the year. The l committee had considered the possibilities of erecting a school swimming bath, but after a comprehensive survey of the position decided, owing to existing general conditions, to abandon tine scheme until a later date.. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing committee, also the secretary (Mr L. R. Davies, who dediined to be ire-elected. Four of the out-going committee did not seek re-election. The committee elected were: Messrs J. D. Piercy (chairman), A. Illingworth (secretary), A. J. Gibbs, A. J. Leigh and F. H. Gush. GENERAL. Winter has made, its appearance, which is reflected in the pastures and the amount of milk received at the factory. A mild form of sickness, which has been rather prevalent, is on the wane, and the school ro'l should soon be back to normal. Winter rowing lias been almost completed, but- the farmers’ work is never finished; feed-ont will be the order of the day during the next few months, to say nothing of general repairs to plant, hedge -.trimming, etc. Local wireless fans have been enjoying a good period of reception, and New Zealand, Australian and American stations have been remarkably clear. Sportsmen are busy polishing up thffir guns in readiness for the shooting season, which opens next-Monday. Gerieral'y .speaking, game is scarce, as in many other districts, still a few flights of ducks have; been noticed.
