SOUTH TARANAKI TOURNEY

W. GRANT (PARK) CHAMPION. CONCLUDING SCENES. The bowling tourney for South Taranaki concluded yesterday -afternoon, when in the presence of a. large' concourse of spectators. "YY. Grant (Park) won the championship, very decisively beating Paterson (Patea) by 20 to 9.

Previous winners were: 1924. —W. H. Freeman, A. Boon. T. J. Griffin, C. N. Johnson (New Plymouth). _ 1925. —W. Okey, J. Bennett, E. Dingle, G. Champion (Fitzroy). 1926. —T. Anderson., S. Muslin, S. Adamson, R. Hicks (Hawera). TROPHIES PRESENTED.

At the conclusion Mr J. Foy (chairinoii of the executive! presented the medals for winners a'ncl runners-up. He said that he hoped all were pleased with the tourney, although there had not been quite so many entries ais could have been wished. He added that all would agree that the greens, thanks to the good work of the green keepers, had been in excellerit order.Eltliam, of course, was always recognised as the well nigh perfect green, but Hawera and Park had been very good. H© congratulated Mr Grant and his men on their play throughout, on their success in this their first championship win. He hoped the premiership would go round, for this was the best for bowls. He also congratulated the runners-up, Patea, on their good play. Acknowledging the compliments on behalf of Mr Grant. Mr F. Quin said the win was- naturally very pleasing to a young club like Park, but lie added that Patea had not given them a real exhibition of their best play. He thanked) his team for their great performance') Mr W. Paterson also replied, thanking all for the great time Patea had had, and said they were more than pleased with their success. Mr Skoglund also expressed cordial thanks on behalf of Stratford and other visiting teams for the excellent time they had been given hv the executive and the pleasure they would all have in returning in the future. Hearty cheers were given for the winners and the ladies, and a special cheer for the veteran lead, Mr S. Par Ices.
