ELTHAM TOWN BAND.
R F.-OR G ANISATION PROPOSED. PUBLIC INTEREST SHOWN. (From OiH' Own Correspondent.) A. special meeting of the Elthaxn Band members and citizens was held in the band loom last night for .the purpose of considering a proposal to reorganise. the band, which has been inactive for the .past twelve months'. Thera was a fair attendance of band mem tiers and citizens. The (Mayor (Mr I. J. Bridget) was appointed to. the chair. He .said that hfci sincerely hoped, that it tvould be found possible to re-establish the band, a.s it was an important institution in any community. He understood many of the difficulties common to bands and bandsmen, and suggested that a citizens' committee .snould be formed to assist the band committee in the general control and management. Also in the matter of finance the committee would, he of great assistance. Air H. N.uttall (secretary) said that the public meeting had been called because. a meeting of band members had failed. He was in favour of making another endeavour to re-establish the band. He referred to the past work of the band and, the very high musical standard that it had obtained. Air Beesley, the conductor, was still available, and with the assistance of the bandsmen, learners’ classes and the citizens’ committee, he isaw no reason why the same success could not be achieved. Some thirteen players had signified their intention of joining up again. Air. Beesley (conductor) .said that the greatest difficulty was with regard to learners. He had experienced great discouragement in trying to teach hoys to play. Bandmaster Alurray siaid that he favoured a trial being given fox three months. He referred to the excellent service rendered the hand b- Conductor Beesley. Mr. Murray then moved that, .a trial period of three months be given in an effort to reinstate the band. This was seconded by All*. J. IX AleNay and carried unanimously. Air. AlcKay then suggested that lan entertainment in aid of the band fund be arranged at the end of tlie three months and that the following be an entertainment committee to assist the hand officers: Messrs J. Burns, E. E. Carter, T. B. Crump, S. E. Carson and Joe Walker. It was decided to amalgamate with the Salvation Army band for the Anzac services.
