ILLEGAL SHEARERS’ STRIKE
(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Apnl 12. At the Magistrate’s Court tin's morning the Inspector of Awards, Mr. A. T. Grandison, proceeded against \\' y Campbell (Green Island), M. Rock (Roxburgh), L. McLeod (Green Island), W. Andrews (Green Island), J Rroswan (Roxburgh), and James Hickey (Moa Elat), ail of whom were shearers, on a claim tor Lit) each tor breaches of the Otago and Southland Shearers’ and Shed Hands Award, dated July 28, 192 G, in that they oecuiiiß parties to an unlawful, strike 01 shearers at Benjamin Thorp’s station, Moa Flat Downs, Heriot, contrary to the provisions of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 19-o The breaches were admitted by the defendants. . . •‘I regard this as a somewhat serious breach oi the award,” said the Magistrate Mr. J. R. Bartholomew. ‘ ihe men had no right whatever to down tools.” . ~ , . Judgment was given lor the plaintiff, with a penalty of £3 in each case.
