PROTECTION FROM FLOOD.

THE PREMIER CHARY. (by telegraph—press association.) WELLINGTON, April 4. A deputation from the Alanawatu and Oroua River -Board waited on the Rt. Hen. J. G. Coates and the Hon. K. •S. Williams to-day, and asked for a subsidy to carry out the scheme and the protection from flooding of the Manawatu, and the land within the River Board’s district. Mr. Coates said that the Government’s finances were not inexhaustible, and before making any contributions he would have' to be very certain of the success of the scheme outlined. He would have full inquiries made.
