THE BOAT RACE
OXFORD V. CAMBRIDGE. BIG- EVENT DUE. THE CHANCES DISCUSSED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 1.25 p.m. to-day. LONDON, April 1. There are indications for squally weather for the boat race, hence the toss involving the choice of the bank is likely to be most important, both crews arc fitted with water chutes, Oxford’s crew adding “traps” to prevent water moving about in the boat. The Cambridge boat contains four old Blues and Oxford’s five. It is noticeable that Oxford, following initial changes due to illness, have improved daily, and are altogether litter and better than on arrival on the Thames. Nevertheless, the consensus of opinion is that it will be a very difficult task to overtake Cambridge’s superior watermanship. Oxford’s form may be said to be only superior in calm conditions. Cambridge has an advantage with Brown (coxswain), who has already coxed three victorious crews.
