MINERS STRIKE
“WALK-OUT” IN U.S.A. TWO THOUSAND MINES SHUT. NO DISORDERS. HY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-OOPYRIGUI Received 10.55 p.m. to-day. NEW YORK, April 1. A message from Indianapolis states that the general 11 wallc-out” of union miners lias put a stop to activity in the bituminous coal industry in the central competitive fields in several on I lying districts.
Over 150,000 left the work in the soft coal regions, with the expiration of the existing wage agreements, cf midnight on March 31. The mines in the central fields of Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and the outying .districts of lowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas are affected. Fully 2000 shaft and strip mines are idle. Maintenance men are left at work under an agreement between the operators and the union officials to protect the property against damage during the walk-cut. The vast army left its posts quietly.
