The annual show once bad an educational value, but now it lia.s boiled itself down to a side-show.” This statement was made by Mr H. C. Smith at the annual meeting of the Canterburv Agricultural -- and. Pastoral Association last week. A member said that the association could not afford to forego the re veilin' obtained from the side-shows. The chairman. Mr .1. O. Coop, said that the side-shows were under police .supervision, and if there were any of an objectionable type the police would handle, them. Attention is drawn to advertisement in this issue notifying electors of Unworn ill at the roli closes on the 13th inst. All persons possesing the neccssarv qualification should satisfy themselves that their names are included in the roll, or put in their claims promptly, and so save disappointment and annoyance on polling day. Qualification may be any one of the following, namely: (1) Freehold. (2) ratnig, (3) residential. (4) occupier. In the case of husband and wife any qualification possessed by either of them shall be deemed to be possessed by each of them. “ Residential ” qualification means, shortly, that a person has resided for one year in New Zealand, and in the borough during the last, three months, anrl is a British subject either by birth or by naturalisation in New Zealand. “Occupier’s” qualification means that ho is and for three months past has been in occupation as a tenant or subtenant, or as one of several tenants or sub-tenants, of some building in the borough, under a tenancy at a rent of not less than £lO per year.
