DOMINION CONFERENCES. FILMS OF BEAUTY CONTESTS. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, March 31. The Dominion conference of the Federated Women’s Clubs opened to-day, Lady Lindo Ferguson, the retiring president, is absent in England, and Mrs W. H. Parkes, president of the Auckland club, was elected president of the Dominion Federated Clubs for the ensuing year. The following remits by the North Otago Women’s Club were carried: ‘‘ I? epue sen tat i ves of women’s duns petition the Government to exercise, in the interest of the youth of the Dominion, stricter censorship orer picture films, and they protest against the introduction into New Zealand of beauty contests on the ground that such contests are demoralising to the participants and engender, in a large section of the public,' a totally false idea- of their value.” Tt- was decided to hold next year s conference in Christchurch next March.
