FAMILY ALLOWANCES

OPERATION OF THE ACT METHOD OF APPLICATION. INFORMATION TO BE SUPPLIED. BY TELEGRAPH SPECIaL TO THE STAR. WELLINGTON, March 16. Machinery for giving effect to the provisions of the Family Allowances Act, which will operate from April 1, is now ready. A number of applications for the allowance are already in hand, and in some cases it will be possible to issue authority for payment on the dav the Act comes into force.

The Act provides for a contribution of 2s per week for every child in excess of two up to the age of 15 years, provided: that the average weekly income from all sources of the family of the applicant, including any allowance payable under the Act, shall not exceed £4.

The chief information the applicant is inquired to furnish when filling in an application form in regard to income and property, which constitutes the main qualification for eligibility, is the number of children in the family, their dates of birth, the income of the applicant and of his wife and' any children under 25 years of age. information as to the country of birth of the ’ applicants, the period of residence in New Zealand, etc.', and interest that may he. derived! by any member of the family from personal property. Applications must be made by the father of the family on the •prescribed form, which is being made available at courthouses throughout the Dominion, oxcent in those centres where there ate registrars of pensions; there they will b°_ issued through the pensions offices.
