HAWERA BOY SCOUTS.

CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE MEETS. Til© monthly meeting of the Hawera Citizens’ Boy Scout Committee was held last evening when there were present Messrs. E. Dixon (chairman), E. Evans, W. T. Johnston (secretary), E. W. Horner, the Rev. L. O. H. Barbour, Mesdames Burrell, Evans, and Adams. The Rev. Mr. Barbour reported that members- of the troop -had qualified for the various decorations as follows : Eight .proficiency badges, three allround cords and four King Scout badges. The cub-master, Mr. O. Hitchcock, reported that there were 23 on the roll, the average attendance having increased to 18, The work was quite satisfactory, but would improve if the weekly instruction could be given on Wednesday evenings for two and a half ho ure.

During the discussion concerning the proposed change of parade night for the cubs, the commissioner, Mr. F. W. Horner, outlined the programme that should be followed and urged the necessity for the programme to be sustained with punctuality. He said that the principal feature of the training should be that each particular branch should be taken up punctually.

The Rev. Mr. Barbour stated that- it had been proposed to hold a carnp at Piatea during the next Blaster holidays and a good deal of the preparation work had been done. It had been decided that the members of the troop who were going to the camp should trek Covn, camping at Mokoia on the first night and completing the journey on the following day, Friday! It was hoped to arrange for a welcome at Patea which would give scouting some needed assistance in that district. A site opposite the Domain had been chosen for the camp. Tile camp would cost each -boy one .shilling for each of the four days, exclusive of the return train fare.

The committee decided to approve of the scheme and to meet any expenditure that might- be incurred. It was derided to hold the annual m-Cetirig on Wednesday March 23. It was suggested that a social function should follow the general busine.ss. and that parents and members of the Rotary Club should be specially invited as well as the general public. It was decided to recommend the appointment of the Rev. Mr. Barbour as scoutmaster of the troop.
