New construction lias increased from £9,083,693 and the estimate for the fleet air- arm from £681,000 to £882,000, Among the causes making a small reduction possible i.s the Federated Malay States’ generous contributions towards the Singapore base, amounting to £576,000 out)'of a promised grant of £2,000,000. Detailed estimates show .that £291,000 was .required in 1927 for Singapore base.. Already £908,000 out of £950,000 lias been expended on the oil storage department, only £270,000 is actually being expended in 1927 on the naval base, for whsb. £6,257,000 will be necessary to complete the works. 3210 new cruisers Australia and Canberra tare due to be completed and •on commission with the Royal Australian Navy personnel about February 1928.
