DOG TRIALS.

GATHERING AT MANGAM'INGI. RESULTS TO DATE. The attendance yesterday at the Mangamingi dog trials was fair and the weather was perfect. An early start was made, and everything went with a swing. The dogs worked well up to the standard of previous years. Only one event, the Novice Class, was run yesterday. This was the head, pull back and drive, open to man and dog not having won a first novice prize. The distance of the trial was about 300 yards, and the time allowed 10 minutes. The results of this event were: R. Stevenson’s Dean, 52pts 1 H. V. Gower’s Voy, 44pts • 2 E. Wells’ Chum, 42pts 3

W. Trembatt’s Fane, 40pts 4 Special prizes in that class were awarded to H. V. Gower’s Voy for putting in the best head. Three special prizes went to R. Stevenson’s Dean for best command, drive and best local dog. The judge’s remarks on the Novice Class were: The work in this class was well up to the standard. The leading dogs did very good work. The winning dog put up a very consistent run, working in perfect harmony with the sheep from start to finish. The other placed dogs also did very good work. The remaining dogs mostly failed in the driving and hurdle portions of the trial. The fault was not always with the dog, but due to want of knowledge on the part of the man working it. The sheep were good strong animals, full of running, and therefore requiring careful handling. Yesterday a sheep-guessing competition was decided, J. GeaT being the winner -with the correct weight, 1511bs. TO-DAY’S PROCEEDINGS.

To-day’s proceedings opened in weather that damped the ardour of the most enthusiastic. At about 10 o’clock, however, a decided change took place, giving way to perfect conditions. There was a good attendance of spectators, which included visitors from Eltham, who took advantage of the weekly half-holiday. All arrangements wont off without a hitch.

The class for head, pull, steady and drive round the ring was completed this morning. Til's- distance was about 500 yards, and the time allowed 12 minutes. The points allotted were: Head 17-, pull 17, ring 4, command 12; total 50. The results were: R. Stevenson’s Dean, IGA, IGA, 3, 11 total 47pts 3. T. E. Sullivan’s Pinch, 15, 10, 3A, 10—-total 44Apts 2 W. V. Mclntyre’s Chief Junior, 33, 10, 4, 10—total 43pts 3 A. Doole’s Toss, 14, 15, 3, 10 — total 42pts 4
