KAPONGA.

(Fi-oiii Our Own Correspondent;. FIRE- BRIGADE. The monthly meeting of the Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Tuesday evening, Superintendent Melville presiding over a full attendance of members.

Correspondence was received from the Taranaki F.B.A. in reference to the forthcoming demonstration and conference at Stratford on the 31st inst.

Fireman ijawke was appointed to represent the brigade at the conference. It was decided to send teams to compete} in the two-men and three-men events at the demonstration. The brigade’s representatives will be' Superintendent Melville, Foreman Blackwell, Firemen Pascoe, Noonan, Keller, and Hawke.

Superintendent Melville reported on proceedings at tlie conference of delegate*-. recently laid in Gisborne, and at wliich lie represented the Kuponga and Manaia brigades. Among other reforms instituted, lie ouoted the new squad drill, which provides for regular forbnightlv parades and drill with appliances bv the members of every brigade. This would, l*e hoped, make for a standard of efficiency. A lieariv vote of thanks wins accorded the .superintendent for his lucid report and service l to the brigade.
