CAMPBELL CUP

Below are given yesterday’s results Tn the Campbell Cup competition : FIRST ROUND. Patea 4G beat Eltham (2) 18; Hawera (1) 52 heat Stratford 19; Eltham (1)45 heat Hawera. (2) 23; Manaia 49 beat Hanvera Park 23. SECOND ROUND. In the second round Hawera (1) beat Patea, 52 to< 34; while Eltham (1) won from Manaia, 52 to 21. Keen interest was taken in the former matches, because, although Hawera’s second pair won very easily((29),6 —9), the first two got home only “on the .post” after a great struggle. They were even throughout, and when Gibbs pegged out, both Hawera players wanted only the peg to finish, wMle Mrs Masters had one hoop to make. Mrs. Bennett waited for Miss Power, but the latter missed the peg, and Mrs Masters, with a fine long shot, got one of the balls and made a brave attempt to win. However, Mrs. Bennett pegged out and her opponent, after two shots, did likewise, and the closest game of the series concluded. THE FINALS. The nnals will be played on big lawns, best two games out of three, commencing on Friday morning. MeL’BOWIE CUP. FOR B PLAYERS. The fine challenge trophy given by Mrs. W. McL ’Dowie. for players having a handicap of 6 and over is eminently favourable to fostering an improvement in play amongst the younger players.
