ARMY RIFLE MEETING.

SHOOTING AT TKENTHAM. SECOND DAY. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) TRiENTHAM, March 9. The second day’s shooting at the New Zealand army rifle championship meeting commenced 1 im dull but fine weather. The competitors included a naval contingent, .permanent staff men, reservists and 1 officers, They went on with the second .stage of the army championship. The cadets were engaged in finishing the first, stage,. interrupted last night owing to failing light. The position of the army competition when the scores were made up last night was: Class I (naval ranks, permanent staff, reservists, and officers). —-Petty Officer Griffiths, of H.M.S. Renown, and Warrant Officer Kearney, permanent staff, were leading with 112 points each out of a possible 175. A tricky wind .accounted for the poor scoring. Lieut. Hepburn (Hamilton) was third with 111, followed hv Staff Sergeant Thompson (Palmerston North) 102, and Warrant Officer Frank (Nelson) TOO. Class II (territorials). —This was headed by Wildbore (Palmerston North) 97, followed by Ellis (Napier) 94, Parker (Petone) 93, Holmes (Blenheim) 91. The Trentiham Match started yesterday, but only a portion was completed. The balance (moving target) will be fired this- afternoon. A total of 540 competitors are present, including 138 cadets, 392 naval ranks, reservists and territorials.

The first stage of the territorial' cadet championship was won by H. B. Sa,psford (Wellington), with a score of 99 out of a possible 125 for four practises (application, snap, rapid and moving target). The runner-up was Sergeant J. J. Boon (Stratford) with 99, followed by: J. M. Jamieson (Pukekohe) 97, J. E. Parley (Wanganui) 97, Sergeant J. Beattie (Hastings) 95. Sergeant A. L. Mackay (Whangave! ) 95, Cornoral C. Collyer (Hokitika) 94, T. H. Bacon (Auckland) 94, H. Stevens (Ha'milton) 94, J. j. Hooker (Wanganui) 93, Q.M.S. TinclaT© (Johnsonville) 91, Sergeant A. C. Wade ( Christchurch') 91, Sergeant H. S. -Tones (Wvndham) 91, Corporal, B. Rockell (Blenheim) 90.

Cadet J. E. Farlev, of Wanganui, secured 1 the possible 25 in the application practise, five shots at 200 yards.
