NORMANBY.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY,

FORTY-FOURTH ANNUAL SHOW. (From Our Own Correspondent.) There are many attractive features for the annual show at “Normanby, which takes place next Tuesday and Wednesday, and which promises to maintain, if nat excel, the high standard already set at previous shows. The committee has been working hard for some considerable time, and all arrangements are well in hand. One of the most noteable alterations will be the staging of exhibits in the .cut flower section. This year all exhibit; will be staged in tiers instead of being shown on tables, as previously. This, as well as giving more room, will show off the exhibits to greater advantage. On the second day of the show the Highland dancing promises to be an attractive item, and no doubt there will be keen competition for the medals and handsome rose-bowl donated for the events. In all the other classes points prizes have been allotted in addition to many specials, no less than five rose bowls and three silver cups being competed for. Entries are already coming in freely, including several'from as' far as 'Christchurch and Dannevirke. Members of the Hawera Pipe Band will be -present, so visitors may rely on good music being provided throughout the day. The ladies’ committee has the catering arrangements well in hand., the canvas, by the society members, of the district having resulted in a splendid response, many cash "donations being made and a noteable supply of cakes, etc., being, promised. The ladies desire to express their thanks to all who so kindly contributed. Mrs. C. Coxhead and Mrs R. E. Antrobus have each donated an iced ealce for weight guessing. A sheep for the same purpose has been gven by Mr «T. Forbes. Arrangements for the concert and dance to be held on the second night of the show are completed. Vocal and other items will be rendered by a party of Hawera performers, under the supervision of Mr. W. J. Woollett, and a first-class programme will be submitted. Arrangements are being made for conveyance from Hawera for the concert, returning after the dance, particulars of which are to be advertised. Unfortunately, through having to attend functions in connection with the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York in Wellington, the Hon. O. .T. Hnwken will be unable to open the show, so Mr F. Gillanders will be asked to perform the ceremony. Given fine weather the 3927 fixture promises to be a great success.
