MISSING MAN.

STILL NO SIGN. SEARCH CONTINUES. In making the search for the man named Winters, who is missing from Kaupokonui, Constable Seannell was on the Kaupokonui beach early this morning. He was assisted throughout the day by Mr. W. -Blackstoclc (Kaupokonui), W. Julian, A. Cate, and P. Joyce (Otakeho). The coastline for a -considerable length to the north and south of both the Kaupokonui and Otakeho rivers was thoroughly combed and the lower reaches of both streams were also carefully examined,, but up till 3.30 o’clock this afternoon no sign of the man had been discovered, nor had any word concerning his whereabouts reached the farm at Kaupokonui. An earlier party made an inspection of the beach last evening, arriving there between five and six o’clock. This party included Messrs W. Julian and P. Joyce (Otakeho), A. Dunn, C. Rye, and P. Ross, of Auroa, and others. They learned that Winters had called at a Maori fishing camp at the mouth of the Otakeho stream about six o’clock on Wednesday evening. The Maoris invited him to join them at the evening meal, but he said he had had his tea from a. kawhai which he had caught and cooked. He departed immediately and so far as can ibe ascertained he has not been seen since.

The letter received by Mr. Blackstock on Thursday, bore the Otakeho postmark of that morning, but as the previous day was a half-holiday at the Post Office it is possible that the letter may have been posted at any time after midday on Wednesday.
