DISARMAMENT
PROPOSED CONFERENCE FAVOURED BY JAPAN. CONSULTING THE DOMINIONS. CacO*. PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT TOKIO, Feb. 16. The Primier, Reijiro Wakatsuld, interviewed, stated that- -the Government strongly favoured President Coolidge’.s proposals for the reduction of naval armaments. Cabinet was not hesitating about accepting the invitation, but. was simply .studying the American memorandum for the purpose of forwarding to Washington a properly worded reply. Mr. Wakatsuld added: “Our attitude on this matter of disarmament is not ambiguous ,nor cloaked in diplomatic technicalities. We are ready to discuss disarmament ip. iahy; fair ans* equal poifferenoe. in ahy place in the world. Japan is not now, nor has she been, arming for war with any country in the world. The figures regarding the strength of her army and navy are •Open to any one.’*’ ,l •* * * LONDON. Feb. 17. The Daily Telegraph’s diplomatic correspondent states that the British Government’s formal reply to President Ooolidge will not- be sent until the views of the Dominion Governments have been received in London.
