MUNICIPAL BAND.

“CONTEST” CONCERT TO-NIGHT. LAST NIGHT’S DEMONSTRATION. Much interest was taken by a fair gathering of musical people last night in the Methodist Hall when the Havvera Municipal Band played the contest numbers. These will also be re» peated at to-night concert in the Opera House. Mr Fox gave an instructive description of the meaning of each section, stressing the points for which critics should watch. The playing of the band and the great improvement shown were favourably commented upon by Messrs Dixon, J. Higham and E. Morrissey, who all wished the band every success at the contest. The combined concert for this evening in the Opera House should prove a successful musical function, and should attract a large audience. Songs will be given by Mrs M. J. Goodson, Miss I. Tayler, 'Mr Eric Pacey, Mr E. Carter. Mr J. Burns; instrumental selections by Mrs Wilson’s orchestra and dancing by her pupils; recitation by Miss Joan Tonks; male voice quartette bv the Fraser Road Maoris: poi dance 'by Normanby Maoris; and comedy turns by Messrs Holder and Hardenberg. The band will play contest numbers, Mr G. Hayes, champion corne.tist, will give a solo, and there will also be a trombone trio.
