FIRE PROTECTION.

EXTENDING HAWERA BOARD’S AREA. At a special meeting of the Hawera County •Council held yesterday, further correspondence relative to the proposal to include portion of the county in the Havvera Fire Board’s area was received, in which the board requested that some definite scheme should be suggested before the next meeting of thel board. The chairman, Cr. J. B. Murdoch; explained the position to the council lors, and pointed out that it had been suggested that a special rating area be declared, but this had been found to be not possible. The clerk, Mr J. W. Harding, remarked that a “separate” rating area could be formed provided that 75 per cent, of tli® residents agreed to* the proposal. % It was decided to leave the_ matter of obtaining sigantures of residents in the bands of the clerk.
