Yesterday, by the mail train, 'Mr and Mrs Alan Good and Miss C. Good left for Wellington, where Airs and Alias Good will join a steamer en route for the Old Country.
Rev. Father Aloran, who has been for some time assistant priest to Alonsignor Power, of Hawera, left by mail train to-day en route to Wellington to join the Alakura for a trip to America and the Old World. Father Aloran. will spend some weeks in the United States and will then visit Ireland and the Continent. He expects to be away the major part of the year.
Air W. G v Compton, organiser for the El Dorado Art Union, left Hawera late last night for Wellington. His assistant, Air J. Preston, left for Auckland by mail train this morning. Air W. Crighton, of Alessrs Crighton and Haughton, of. Wellington, who are associated with Messrs Duffill and Gibson as architects for the new hospital, arrived in Hawera last evening by mail train to he present at the opening ceremony. He stayed at the Commercial Hotel, and will leave to-morrow on Ms return to Wellington. Air E. G. Betts, of Okaiawa, left yesterday on a fishing trip of a month’s duration to the Auckland district.
At a special meeting of the committee of the Hawera-Swimming Club held yesterday afternoon, the hon. secretary, Air J. H. Davenport tendered Ms resignation consequent upon notification of Ms transfer from the staff of the Public Trust Office, Hawera, to Dunedin. Air Davenport’s resignation was accepted with regret, and Air A. Walker was appointed to succeed Mm as secretary.
