WAR INCIDENTS.
UNREST AMONG FRENCH TROOPS. EX-MINISTER EXPLAINS. BY GABv.E--PRESS ASSOCIATION- -enPYRIGUI LONDON, Feb. 15. In an exclusive interview with the British United Press, M. Painleve, formerly French Minister of War, discussing extracts published in London from Mr Churchill’s book on the world crisis, said: “Mr Churchill states that entire French regiments revolted in June. 1917, and started to march to Paris, but in reality there was only a vague tendency that way. There certainly were spasmodic .refusals to return to the ranks and vehement demands for leave, but in order to reduce painful events to their true importance, it is only necessary to recall that discipline was entirely re-estab’iished after five weeks.
“Unhappily General Petain wa,s obliged to authorise 23 executions, hut it should be remembered that an army ’f 4,000.000 men and a front of 200 mil?s were at stake.”
