PERSONAL ITEMS.
Dr. Allen, of Auckland, was a guest at tlie White Hart Hotel last evening. Mr. and Mrs, A. J. Glosson left Hawera this morning for Auckland to join tlie Niagara on Tuesday. They expect to spend three weeks in Honolulu. During his short visit to Hawera, Dr. J. B. MeDiarmid, formerly of Hawera, but now of Tauranga, visited the. new hospital. He left for Aucklaifqp at noon yesterday. The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, will arrive in Hawera by mail train on Thursday evening for the purpose of opening the new hospital on Friday. Accommodation has been reserved for the Minister and his secretary, Mr J. T. Wiaueh, at the Central Hotel.
A London cable message states that Professor A. J. Grant, of Leed University, has sailed for New Zealand to take up duties at Canterbury College. He is the first English professor to exchange chairs with a New Zealand professor. Professor Grant will be relieved at Leeds by Professor J. Hight, of Canterbury College. Professor Grant, who has written several standard works, is one of England’s foremost living historians.
