A FINE GIFT.

TRIMBLE LIBRARY. FOR STRATFORD TECHNICAL . SCHOOL. The excellent library, containing hundreds of volumes, rare and finely bound, which lias been given to the Stratford Technical High School by the Tyimble family, has a special interest for Hawera people, because the late Mr Alfred Trimble, who made the collection during the past 40 years, was for many years a resident of Hawera, where be was Clerk of the Court. It was during those years that he laid the foundation of the library, to which, ever since he left this district, he had steadily added until it reached a total of nearly a thousand volumes. It was when Mr Trimble . lived on the South road in the early ’nineties that he began collecting, and it is worth recording that he lost some of his valuable books, which were in the courthouse, in the fire of 1895. The collection embraces a very wide scope of literature —reference works, the great poets and dramatists, art and ancient mythology, historv and leading illustrated papers, theology and engineering, and many other subjects. It is a wonderful gift, and one for which the teachers and pupils of Stratford Technical School should feel proud to possess.
