LONDON, Feb. 9. The late Sir Arthur Myers bequeathed £2OOO for the purchase of pictures for Auckland City Council. LONDON, Feb. 9. Evidence given at the inquest concerning the death of the Cambridge student showed that the scarf caught on the magneto shaft. Asphyxiation h-as so quick that the man had no chance to do anything, his head being pulled right down. He had been dead eight hours before being discovered. He was found with one hand grasping the control and the other against his mouth. WASHINGTON, Feb. 9. The State Department declares that American -aviators who were reported to have bombed Nicaraguan towns, with the Diaz army, will be advised that the United States Government disapproves of Americans serving with foreign troops The department will investigate whether the two American airmen reported to he serving with Diaz took the oath of allegiance to Nicaragua, and, if so, it will cancel their citizenship under the American expatriation law. The officials declined to state whether they would prosecute under the United States criminal code, which makes foreign service punishable by a fine of one thousand dollars or three years’ imprisonment. NEW YORK, Jan. 9.

Nearly 1600 were injured among the crowd at the Emperor’s funeral which the police estimate numbered 1,500,000. A great number were sent to hospital suffering from exposure. Field-Mar-slial Count Oku, famous in the Russo-Japanese- war, aged 82, and Admiral Togo, who attended at the ceremonial hall, are reported to be ill.
