OUTBREAK OF INFLUENZA.

ON lONT.O ON TRIP TO' AUCKLAND (BY TELEGRAPH--PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 8. The lonic, with 525 passengers, including 290 immigrants from England, dropped anchor early this morning. The port medical officer, Dr. Harke, on boarding the vessel learned that during the voyage there had been an outbreak of influenza, about 40 of the passengers and the crew being affected. The outbreak was not a. violent one ; there were no deaths and the last case occurred on January 18. The berthing of the vessel was delayed, pending consultation with Dr. Hughes .medical officer of health, who has gone aboard. Pratique was granted to the lonic, which was expected to- berth about one o’clock.
