HAWERA MUNICIPAL BAND.

MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING

The monthly meeting of the citizens’ committee of the Hawera . Municipal Band, held last evening, ■ ivas attended bv Messrs E. Dixon (chairman), H. N. Lester, H. A. Brunette, E. Evans, J. Champion, H. C. A. Fox (conductor), C. Haddon, C. Pearce, AV. Cook, E. Frank, J. Kilpatrick and W. Hawkins (secretary). , The conductor reported that Lor the month of January the band had paraded 22 times, two having been public performances, one in High street, the other in the park. In addition there had been 16 sectional rehearsals for the contest. The quickstep practice at King Edward Park had been well attended by the public. The bandsmen had been training hard for the Wellington band contest, and good progress had been made. The uniforms had been re-issued to the bandsmen, and every credit was due to Messrs Hawkins and Oliver for their splendid workmanship. The band .through the engagement of Mr Vincent, of Palmerston North (solo cornet) was now at full strength. The attendance at rehearsals had been good, and the conductor suggested holding public rehearsals next week. He asked the committee to decide as to which public bodies he should invite. The junior band was making good progress, but owing to the contest their rehearsals had been suspended till March 3. Mr Fox said that, in giving public, rehearsals, he intended to devote one night to music teachers and another to members of tlie Borough Council. The reoort was adopted, and the matter of inviting local bodies to bo present was left in the hands' of the committee. 1

Mr Letter reported that the programme for the concert to ! be "given. x>ext weeh was veil in hand, a good deal of talent being available. Advice was received that the Fraser Road Maori quartette would give two items at the concert.
