CROQUET.
MRS McL’DOWIE ENTERTAINED. On Saturday afternoon. several members of South Taranaki croquet clubs met at the Hawera lawns to do honour to Mrs McL’Dowie, who recently presented, a handsome solid silver cup for competition amongst B grade players of the South Taranaki clubs. Progressive and golf croquet tournaments were played, prizes being won by Mesdames A. V. Tait (Kaponga), McKay (Manaia), and C. •J. Bilton (Hawera). A delightful afternoon tea was served, the tables being artistically arranged by Mrs C.. H. Washer, who also made the beautiful bouquet which was presented to Mrs McL’Dowie by Jocelyn Evans. In the course of a speech Mrs Bilton. vice-president of the club, said the occasion was one- whereby the members of the South Taranaki clubs had an opportunity of expressing the spirit of comradeship, and sociability, which the McL’Dowie Cup would foster. 'When the competition for possession of the trophy was held early in March the time spent would give much pleasure and encouragement to B grade players.
