Dear Smile Queen, —You will be surprised to hear from me. lam joining your Smile Club. I have read all* the Smile letters in the October Hawcra Star sent to my Mum from Manaia. It does seem funny to read of your having spring and we are in winter. We have boon having gales all this week. This is a little village 10 miles from a town. 1 wish I had a dear little lamb or a calf like some of your Smiles in N.Z. We have a wireless sot and hear all the 2LO programmes. Sometimes we can hear a call from New Zealand. Yesterday I heard the bugles from London after the two minutes' silence, and they were very clear. My Dad was killed in the war in 1917 at Yprcs. I am sending you my Armistice poppy. Well, good-bve, Smile Queen. I shall always look for your page when wo get a paper. From Ronald Parsons. Ago, 9.

[Yours was a beautiful letter, Ronald. If you don’t write every mail, I know I shall feel so sad. Thank you so much for the poppy. lam putting it carefully away with the one I wore out here. It would be lovely if you could keep a lamb or a calf, but perhaps you have a dog or a kitten. Write again soon please and tell me the date of your birthday.—S.Q.]
