WORK OP ADMINISTRATION. COUNCIL’S MONTHLY MEETING. The, monthly meeting of' the Eltham Borough. Council was hold last evening. Tfcere'Vere present: His W-onshio the Mayor (Mr Irg? J. Bridger), -and Councillors R. L. Garden, A. Kemp, R. Lewis, T. Me Whir ter, L. Nairn, A. 0. Ricketts and W. Bigg. The Medical Officer of Health wrot6to the effect that the New. Zealand. .Plumbers’ Federation had waited upon the Hon. the 'Minister of Health in reference to the work of registered plumbers being, in many cases performed by unregistered .plumbers; many •breaches of the-Act were alleged, and the Plumbers’ Board- urged -that local authorities be enjoined. to‘.more etrictVyenforce the Plumbers’ Registration Act, particularly-in regard' to sanitary york. . , A letter was received from the yecrctary of the Eltham School Committee (RaV. IV. IV. Avery), returning thanks for the council’s annual subsidy of £lO towards* the maintenance of the school baths for the current season. Advice was received from the secretary of the Municipal Association of New Zealand that a. conference of delegates will, be held 1 at Palmerston North on Wednesday, February 16, and requesting representation. ' -Tlie Mayor and* the Town Clerk were appointed to represent the council. OFFICIAL’S REPORTS. Reports on. the past month's operations, as under, were ,submitted and adopted:— • The overseer reported, in addition to routine work, 56 chains of footpath in York, High and Stanners- streets, were re-graded, cavered 1 with chips and tarsprayed. He had to report to destruction of the concrete slab at the mouth of the water supply intake and removal of a necessary iron bar and working appliances. It was reeolved that this matter be reported to the- 1 police. The Town Hall’ Committee- recommended that the council accede- to the demand of the-? Australian Performing Right Association for payment of an annual license fee to cover the use of copyright works' contained in the -asso ciation’s repertoire, in conjunction witn picture entertainments, and that the council- should apply for membership of the New Zealand Motion Picture Exhibitors’ Association. The Works Committee -recommended the installation of I 'a temporary sewer in Stunners -street and 'acceptance of Mr J. W. Harrison’s tender for painting Lon cl on. Street footbridge and crossarm notice boards. FINANCE. The treasurer -reported receipt of-the sum bf J £BOB?T2s- during'the month of December, the’ principal’ contributing sources being: Rates £ll6 17s 9d, gasworks £287 12s 6d, Town Hall £254 6s 3d. Expenditure for the same period amounted to £1132 13s 9d. A statement of’the bank credit balancey as at December 31 showed :—District Fund Account; £269 2s- 3d; Domain, £lO6 Is 9cl; Cemetery. £73 18s 3d; sewerage loan, £l3B 11s- 3d -, sewerage loa-is : (feed’ deposit), £L&X).: total, £2057 13ft?6dy A comparative -statement of receipts and expenditure for the period April 1 to December 31. 1925 and 1926 (the former ini parentheses) gave the following details.:—Receipts, £2990 os Id £3096 19s 4-d); expenditure, £2449 4s (£2573 7s-2d). Accounts amounting to £7ll 3s 8d Were passed for payment. GENERAL. "Austioneers’: licenses were granted to Messrs H. H; Marehant and J: IV. Turnbull. Permission was granted to C. A. Wilkinson. Ltd., to instal a petrol pump at the grain l store, adjacent to the railwav station.
