At a public meeting at Ashfield, Sydney, to recognise the heroism of Stanley Gibbs, £37 -was subscribed. It was_ announced that Gibbs was most anxious that any recognition accorded him should be shared by Donald - Campbell, who had rowed out to help him. The Mayor (Aid. F. O. Hedger) expressed a confident assurance that Ashfield’s contribution would eventually amount to not less than £2OO. Gibbs and Cameron arrived separately at different times while the meeting was in progress, and each was welcomed with a spontaneous burst of applause. The Mayor of Ashfield said that the action pf Stanley Gibbs was one which the people of Ashfield, indeed the people of 'the whole State, proposed to adequately recognise.
