Mr. William Wood, of New Plymouth, has died at the age of 77. •He was one of the oldest residents of Taranaki. His mother is still alive and although 5)7 years of age is in excellent health. .Mr. Wood fought in the Maori War and was one of those sent to White Cliffs when the Rev. J. Whiteley was murdered. Afterwards he entered the watchmaking and jewellery business in Devon Street, New' Plymouth, in partnership with his brother Edwin. In 1904 he retired. He had been an inmate of the hospital lately. He was keenly interested in sport, particularly shooting and horse racingHe leaves two daughters and a. son. Mrs. H. J. Bedford, Miss Wood and Mr. W. Wood.
