LEAGUE RUGBY.
N.Z. PLAYERS’ COMPLAINTS
TOUR NOT A SUCCESS
in oahlk—khkss association- -eurYiucn > LONDON, Jan. 13.
The New Zealand League player Mount, interviewed prior to leavhig for home, declared that he has no intention of publicly defending the conduct of himself and other dissentients, but that they have been grossly misjudged. “Recently we frankly stated our case to the Rugby League Council, who are now laying the matter before the New Zealand Council, demanding an inquiry into the conduct of the tour,” he said. Mr Osborne, chairman of the League Council, expressed the opinion that much is to be said on behalf of the malcontents, and lie hopes there will be a full inquiry in New Zealand.
English League circles declare that the tour has been most disappointing. The players’ skill was below expectations, and the enforcement of discipline had been most difficult. Consequently the team had not done itself justice. Instead of a surplus of £2OOO there would probablv be a deficit of £ISOO.
Singe complains- that the dissentients’ out-of-nocket expenses were stopped five weeks ago. “We left Harrogate at Christmas almost penniless. The Wales Rugby League Council was very good. and presented money to take us home. We claim that- the best team was not played throughout the tour,” he said.
