AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

(Bv “Spike.’’) FORTHCOMING EV ENTS

Jan. 22. —Wanganui Club Championships. Jan. 26. —Caledonian Sports, Hawera. Jan.’ 29. —West Coast Championships. Feb 10 and 12.—New Zealand Cham-

pionships. Feb. 19. —New Plymouth .Electric Light Sports.

The entries for the Caledonian sports at Hawera are large, and this should he a very good meeting. It is unfortunate that the Hawera Club could not arrange a suitable date for Lamb to compete under its auspices. Lamb competes at the Caledonian sports at Hawera by arrangement, and this sporting attitude of the committee of the Hawera Amateur Athletic Club is typical of its policy to produce the best athletes to its patrons whenever possible. It is hoped Lamb does not see the track in its present condition. Sometime earlier in the season one or two energetic officials kept training cyclists off the main track, but this splendid idea, has been allowed to lapse with dire consequences. Lamb is not yet riding up to form, but should he nicely fit when he competes at Hawera. Stoning Bros., Griffin. Lay and Kelly have been invited to compete against Lamb in a, two mile invitation scratch race on January 26 at Hawera. President Spragg will manage the team competing at the West Coast championships. A. Rum-ball has been on the sick list, but is in “work” again for the championships. Colin Sturrock will now be available to- run in either the- mil© or three mile (which ever is put on at night) at- the West Coast Championships. E. S. Hoddinnott is getting in good work for the championships. Watch young Kennedy in the quarter at the Caledonian meeting. E. O. Brown and A. G. Moore- are due for a win in cycle events soon. Loftv Carroll now resides in Auckland and has joined an amateur club in the city, where he is getting useful instructions in hurdling from Shirley. N. Good son will make the trip to the centre championships and .should run very prominently in the TOO yards. Goodson does not intend to hurdle race in future.

Des. Rvan is likely to he seen in action over the hurdles soon.

Claude Shore may upset supporters 9f G.illiver in the hop. step and ium p at Wanganui on January 29. Vic. Solomon is getting in good work on fhe track and a-s he has landed a maiden 100 va-rd-.s in Thsec. this season he may go well at the Caledonian meeting.

Tli © picnic will he held at Te Ngutu-o-te-Manu Gardens on January 30.. and a great days outing is anticipated. All members and their friends are expected f n make the trip. Particulars- later.
