PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Palmer, of Auckland, who are on a motoring trip to Wellington, stayed at the White Hart Hotel last evening and left this morning on the continuation of their journey. The Rev. E. T. Cox, M.A., of Wanganui, who has been spending a holiday at Opunake, was a passenger by the mail train on his return journey this morning. ' Among the successful Hawera candidates at the recent LL.B.' examinations were the following:—P. J. M. Coleman (jurisprudence; R. J. O’Dea (Roman law, constitutional law and jurisprudence) . ' The Rev. J. 11. Blanchard, of Perth, Western Australia, has agreed, to accept the call of the St. John’s Presbyterian Church. "Willis Street, Wellington, re-c-ntlv forwarded to him, states a Press Association message. The engagement is announced of Rae, second daughter of Mrs R. L. Pease, and the late Mr. J. F. Pease, Rossall, Hawera, to Noel Lewes, oi Wanganui, second ison of the late Mr and Mrs. E. L. Lewes, Blundellsands, England. Sir Percival Phillips, the distinguish ed special correspondent of The Daily Mail, has been sent to Hankow. He had been engaged in Canada on a mission <>l investigation in connection with his articles now appearing in The Daily Mail. Cutting short his visit, lie left Vancouver, and arrived at Shanghai at the end of November, and Jolt again at- once for Hankow. His first experience of China was as special correspondent during the Russo-Jap-anese war. Lady Alice Fergusson and the viceregal party, who have been encamped on the Hen Island, returned to Whangarei by the harbour board’* launch lvumi, on Tuesday last, says the Northern Advocate. Her Excellency travelled incognito, anti the party returned b.\ the express to Auckland lor the vice-regal ball, postponed on account of the death of the Elinperor of Japan till to-night. It had been intended to transfer the campers from the Hen Island to the Poor Knights, but owing to easterly winds prevailing, Mr W. M. Fraser advised that there was a of such a. trip being unduly proIr.iVged. It was then decided to return to the mainland.
