NURSERYMEN IN CONFERENCE.
(BY TIiJLEGBAPH PBKBB ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 5. The Dominion conference of the Iveiv Zealand nurserymen was continued today. the election or officers resulted: President-, Mr, I. Waugh; vice-presidents, Messrs Jas. Allen (Panmure), representing the North Island, and Wellington (Christchurch), representing the South Island; .secretary, Mr G. A. Green (Auckland); treasurer, Mr W. Y. Kings beer (Palmerston North); auditor, Mr A. E. Mansford (Palmerston North). It was decided to alter the title or the association to •‘The; Horticultural Trades Association of New Zealand (Incorporated).” The conference passed a remit urging the establishment of a national native bush reserve in the Dominion. The chairman said a start had been made in setting aside an area of liatiye trees at Wilton’s Bush, in Wellington. He said Dr. Cockayne had advised that it was impossible, with the climatic conditions in New Zealand, to hove a representative area ot native bush set aside in one centre. MOPE TOURISTS COMING. WELLINGTON. Jan. 6. It is announced that the Franconia (sister ship to. the Ciarinthia) will leave New York next week on a trip round the world, mostly via the southern hemisphere. She will carry 410 pasKOgigers, who wil spend some time in New Zealand. Over one hundred of them intend coming through the North Island by the Wanganui River. This will be the largest conducted party to go. clown the river at one time since the Maori wars. All the passengers will visit Rotorua. They will land at Auckland on February 2T and at Wellington on February 23.
