TARIKI POWER SCHEME.

TURBINE TRIALS. SATISFACTORY RESULTS. “The turbines of both machines have been tried out, and are entirely satisfactory.” said Mr H. G. Carman, chairman of the Taranaki Electric Power Board, to an Argus reporter yesterday. “Number one generator is now being dried out, hut the time that will be required for that operation is uncertain. As soon as both machines, are dried out, power can be supplied.” In reply to an inquiry about the dam, Mr Carman .said that the lake was full at 2 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon, and the water was going over the spillway. There was no sign of any leakage in the dam. “I suppose you are pleased with'the result of the tests so far?” asked the reporter. —“I am more than satisfied,” said Mr Carman, “and Mr O’jmie is as pleased as the. proverbial dog with two tails!” Mr B. IT. Goldsmith, the Board’s resident engineer, expressed satisfaction when seen later. “Everything is goinrr very nicely out there, and o are all very well pleased.” he said. “As soon as the drying out of the first generator is completed, tests on an artificial load will be carried out. The machinery wiP then be. operating in exactly the same manner as if it weie supplying nover to the Board’s system. When this test is completed, this «et will be ready “to take the load. ’ The same procedure is to be gone through with Number 2 machine, which is now starting its drying-out run.” “The fact that the lake is now frd .” "ontinued Mr Goldsmith, “means that the big main tunnel is now under full pres-sm e. No sign of leakage nf the adits, m at any other places nns been ■defected. ”
