MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) METHODIST CHURCH. The Christmas season was celebrated in the Methodist circuity of Manaia by special services. Mr \V. T. Johnson, of Hawera, was the preacher at Auroa, and the Rev. H. C. Orchard conducted the services at Oeo and Manaia. At both services at Manaia the singing was a feature, the choir i and congregation joining heartily in the old Christmas hymns. At the j evening service the choir, under the i leadership of Mr O. T. Parry, sang j the carol “A. Child this Day is Born.” ! The morning subject was “What j Christmas stands for”—family life, i friendship and reunion, forgiveness, ' God’s gift day. At the evening seri vice the text was a portion of Luke '2, 15: “Let us now go even unto ‘ Bethlehem and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.” The subject i was “What Bethlehem’s manger cradle [ means.” PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

On Sunday a special Christmas service was held at "the Presbyterian Church by the Rev. J. D. Smith. A large congregation was present. BOWLING. The Manaia howlers are to he heartily congratulated on their success at the tournament held at Opunake on Boxing Day for the Christie Shield. The rink comprising Toro a, Butler, Johnson and A. C. Smith won every match and secured the shield.
