A military coup d-etat under General Smetona, ovcrthreiv the Lithuanian Government, and resulted in the arrest of the Premier and members of the Cabinet. The revolt is reported to he due to resentment at the Government’s Russian policy, RceiVed 11.25 a.m. to-day. RIGA, Dec. 17. The Lithuanian coup d’etat was carried out without the shedding of blood. The streets Avere placarded at dawn with the statement: “The Government is selling the country to the BolsheA r ik» and foreigners; therefore the army is temporarily taking 'over the situation.” General Sinetona has declared martial law. Kovno is quiet. UNEASINESS IN POLAND. FRONTIER TROOPS REINFORCED. Received noon to-day. WARSAW. Dee. 17 ; There is uneasiness in Poland, following the Lithuanian coup, due to the fear of General Smetona’s pro-German tendencies. Poland has reinforced its troops on the eastern frontier!
