FLYING BOATS

CRUISE CONTEMPLATED. TRIP TO AUSTRALIA PLANS OiF AIR MINISTRY. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT Received 2 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Dec. 14. It is understood that the Air Ministry has arranged for a cruise in the middle of the year of a fleet of flying boats to Australia, via Singapore. The fleet will be commanded by an officer of high rank.*. The machines will be super-marine, of the Southampton type, carrying a crew of four, and equipped with Napier Lion twin engines of 900 horse-power. The Air Ministry recently equipped the coastal reconnaissance squadrons with this type. If one engine fails, the second will maintain the machine aloft at a speed of 110 miles per hour.
