CRIPPLED FROM BIRTH.
CURL’S USE OF HER TOES. NEAT WRITING AND SEWING. SYDNEY, Dec. 2. A remarkable instance of how a person ,crippled from birth, overcame the loss of the use of her hands and triumphed over the misfortune is that of a girl who is at present an inmate oi a large Sydney hospital. Unable to use either of her arm© or hand*, the girl ©et about to do with, her feet things that normal persons do with their hands. How well she succeeded may be gauged from the manner in which she wrote the name of the hospital. Holding the pencil between the first two toes of her right foot, the girl steadied the pad with her left, and the result was -a script neater than that of an average person with the full use of -fingers and wrist. Every letter was distinctly formed. In addition, tire girl paints, stencils, knits and does all kinds of sewing with her feet. Even the threading of a needle is not beyond the capabilities of her toes. The girl was- born in New Zealand but went to school in a country town of New South Wales. Recently her relatives, who live in a- Sydney suburb, hoped that the doctors might be able to restore the use of her arms, but it was found impossible to do anything. Despite this disappointment the girl remains happy. She has a bright disposition that seem© never to have been clouded by the position in which she finds herself. —Auckland Herald correspondent.
